Nicaragua

Solar Market Outlook in Nicaragua

Nicaragua is constantly battered by extreme weather, which has forced the government to look into renewable sources as an alternative for energy production. The focus on renewable energy projects is part of a long-term plan for the government to counter the effects of climate change. Therefore, it is part of a broader discussion that will hopefully put solar power as one of the potential solutions.

There are other benefits to the continued push to make solar energy the primary source of power in the country: to reduce dependence on oil. Aside from solar energy, wind power is also currently being utilized in Nicaragua and is going through a phase of developmental boom.

While the primary reason for many investors delving into the renewable energy market is economically-motivated, it’s clear that the environmental benefits are set to follow. Therefore, the government is working closely with the private sector to boost the solar energy market in Nicaragua.

Currently, Nicaragua’s global emissions are one of the lowest at only 0.03 percent. The country is committed to reducing it further, especially as they joined the Paris Agreement.

Solar Energy Equipment Supply Capacity in Nicaragua

In Nicaragua, there is a good mix of local and global suppliers of solar power equipment. This has promoted more investors to put in solar power plants and production of other equipment for those looking to boost the solar installation capacity of the country.

Major Seaports & Logistics in Nicaragua

Puerto Corinto is the largest and busiest seaport in Nicaragua. It is the primary avenue for logistics and handling of goods for the distribution of solar equipment in the country.

There are a few other seaports that are available, too, such as the Port of Bluefields, Port of El Bluff, Port of Cabezas, Port of Sandino, Port of El Rama, and Port of San Juan del Sur.

Top Mounting System Wholesale Suppliers & Manufacturers

Solar racking or solar mounting systems are for fixing solar panels on the rooftop or the ground.  As a solar installer, you require solar racking products that safely keep solar panels in place through installation.  Solar tracking systems are generally made from aluminum, which is ideal for rooftop solar mounting installations due to their strength and low weight compared to other metals.

Keep in mind that besides residential solar mounting, the commercial & distributed solar energy market and the utility-scale solar energy segment are growing by more than 50% year-over-year for photovoltaic (PV) installation.  Particularly, the utility-scale market is estimated to grow to nearly 10 GW of capacity by 2020. So, as an installer, there are huge opportunities for you to grow your business by supplying and installing solar mounting systems to these segments. Buying wholesale solar racking systems is likely to increase your chances to fulfill your business objectives. Even though solar racking is a key part of any solar installation, the cost of racking is taking just a small portion of a total installation. The National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) states that the cost of solar racking is nearly $0.10 per Watt (W). Considering that, racking should constitute just about 3% of the total system cost.

Ground-Mounted or Roof-Mounted Solar Racking?

As an installer, which type of solar racking system you wish to provide out of ground-mounted and roof-mounted.  The main advantage of ground-mounted systems is that there is a wide range of products available.  Roof-mounted solar racking systems are the most common because most of the residential buildings install rooftop solar panels.

The main reason behind this is the cost. Usually, roof-mounted solar systems are less expensive than ground-mounted systems. It is because the rooftop solar panels only need the rooftop as the main structure to sustain the panels, along with the racking system. This saves costs, which will otherwise go up due to the aluminum or steel structures that are required to support ground-mounted solar panels. Logically, if your solar installation business mainly revolves around residential rooftop solar installation, you can buy wholesale solar racking systems at a low cost and can leave out ground-mounted systems.

Ground-mounted Solar System Installation

The installation process of a ground-mounted system comprises the following important steps, mainly for a foundation mount type. First of all, you need to set up system design:

  1. Dimension of the Solar system: You can install the solar system in sets of 3, 4, or even 5 rows of panels. It all depends on receiving direct sunlight and the electrical design.
  2. Testing the Soil Condition: If the soil on the ground is clay, grave, or sedimentary rock, then you need to figure out the foundation type based on weather conditions, and also according to the size and weight of solar panels.
  3. Choosing the Foundation: You need to decide on the suitable type of foundation, such as concrete piers or Helical piles. For this purpose, ground perforation will be required.
  4. Selecting pipe size, mechanical tubing, and material: Aluminum, steel, etc.

Roof-mounted Solar Racking Installation

The process roof-mounted solar racking installation requires a typical railed mounting system:

  1. Keeping all the components handy, such as drilling, fall protection kit, rails, clamps, bolts, screws, and others.
  2. Measuring the distance between the roof and the rails. A reference line is drawn by using a chalk line.
  3. Checking with the local authorities for guidelines. Usually, the guidelines are regarding the edges of the roof when setting up the initial position of the rails and the panels.
  4. Drilling a spot hole is done through the roof. After drilling and finding the position of the drill from the inside, you can adjust the center of the truss that will support the spot for the rails.
  5. Next is mounting the flashings. You need to mount the flashings, which are the supporting structures that attach solar panels to the roof. Then flashing is connected to the rails by using bolts and caps.
  6. The next step is mounting the solar racking system. You also need to ensure that the rails are lined up and properly elevated using the flashings.
  7. Then grounding bolts are attached to the bare copper wire that connects with the grounding system.
  8. Finally, the solar panels are attached to the mounting system. Clamps and T-bolts are used to make sure the panels sit tight on the mounting system.

Manufacturers

In the simplest terms, manufacturing is the process of producing actual goods or items/products through the use of raw materials, human labour, use of machinery, tools and other processes such as chemical formulation. This process usually starts with product designing and raw material selection, turning them into an actual product output.

Solar Products Manufacturers and Factories

In terms of solar, manufacturing encompasses the fabrication or production of materials across the solar market chain. The most common product being manufactured by solar companies are the solar photovoltaic (PV) panels, which are made with several subcomponents such as solar wafers, cells, glass, back sheets, and frames. Before a solar panel comes into life, it will undergo a lot of processes, from designing, modelling, choosing what raw materials to use and then assembling them all to make the final product.

More Than Just Solar Panels

Aside from the solar panels, solar companies have many other manufactured products that are required to make solar energy systems work smoothly, like solar inverters, batteries, combiner boxes, and racking and tracking structures.

Having a solar manufacturing sector makes a big difference in supplying affordable solar energy in different areas. Aside from maintaining the rising domestic and global demand for cleaner and renewable energy, they also help the economy grow, particularly the solar industry. If you are in search of a reliable solar manufacturing company, checking out our solar outsourcing company, SolarFeeds, would help you get easy access to reliable information, news, data and a list of solar manufacturers that can help you with solar products.
