Power Transformers are devices used for transferring power from one line to another. Transformers use electromagnetic induction to induce the current from the primary coil to the secondary coil. Irrespective of the source of electricity, transformers are either step up or step down.

 

How is a Power Transformer used with a Solar Plant?

In a Solar Plant, the transformers get used in two points in the whole circuit. At the transmission, level to step up or step down the power. And in the solar inverters to step down the voltage to change the DC to AC.

 

Types of Power Transformer for Solar Plant

There are two types of Solar Power transformers.

  • Step up Power Transformer: The DC from the solar panels gets a step up from the transformer to match the power rating for domestic use.
  • Solar Inverter Transformer: The second application is the solar inverter. When the current is generated in the solar panels, it is a direct current or DC. To make it usable for households, solar inverters convert this DC to AC.

A transformer has a metallic core with coils on two sides. In Solar Transformers, the number of primary windings is more than the secondary windings.
