The former eBay marketing director and current head of the SiliconValley venture firm The Westly Group believes there will be a dozenclean technology IPOs in the next 12 months, some of them“blockbusters.”
SteveWestly revealed his views during a speech at the Venture CapitalJournal’s Financing the Cleantech Vision conference in Palo Alto,California on Thursday.
Westly’s list of potential IPOs includes Silver Spring Networks, theSilicon Valley smart grid technology developer that has already raised$168 million in venture funding and recently landed the contract forSacramento’s smart grid project.
The venture capitalist’s list also include Solyndra, a Californiabased maker of photovoltaic systems for commercial rooftops that hasraised $226 million in venture funding so far, and A123 Systems, aproducer of lithium-ion batteries which is already in registration andrecently filed an amended prospectus.
Vancouver geothermal company Magma Energy is another possibility,although it’s expected to debut in Canada where it will seek CAD 50million ($43 million) on the Toronto Stock Exchange.
To date this year there have been only 13 IPOs in the United States,compared to 35 during the same period of 2008 (which was also slow).
