U.S. Solar Industry to Increase 114% by End of 2010

In a recent report released by the Solar Energy Industries Association, the solar market in the United States is estimated to increase 114 percent overlast year’s figure. This market growth will result in more than 1gigawatt of added capacity, accounting for 314 megawatts from projectsthat were brought on line during the first half of the year and anadditional 944 megawatts from projects that are expected to becomeoperational by December 2010. Of the 1,258 megawatts of new capacitycreated, fully 68.8 percent will be generated from photovoltaic technology.
The report cites several key factors in the growth of solar power,including declining module prices, federal incentives, and state targets for renewable energy.
