solar tree gm Solar Tree Installed at GM Factory $GMGeneral Motors’ Warren, Mich. facility is the latest GM installation to plug into solar-charged driving. Envision Solar International recently completed a so-called Solar Tree® structure at the GM site. The Solar Tree® will shade and charge six electric vehicles while also providing renewable, solar-electric energy to GM’s facility.

The Solar Tree® incorporates Envision’s CleanCharge, “column-integrated” electric vehicle charging stations. The Solar Tree® structures also include Envision’s EnvisionTrak multi-axis solar tracking technology, which could increase the efficiency of the installation by as much as 25 percent.

“Our Solar Tree® structures are the perfect visible embodiment of GM and its dealerships’ commitment to the environment and the future of electric vehicles,” said Desmond Wheatley, President and CEO of Envision Solar.

Rob Threlkeld, GM Global Manager of Renewable Energy, voiced similar sentiments.

“GM’s decision to use Envision Solar’s Solar Tree® structure dovetails with our larger environmental commitment to reduce our environmental impact,” he said. “By continuing to find ways to utilize advanced technologies for the greater good, we are hopeful that these trends will soon become commonplace.”
