Solar Decathlon Preview: Team New York’s Solar Roofpod

The U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon kicks off today. During this nine-day competition, Team New York, a group of architecture, engineering and communications students from The City College of New York, will be competing with 19 other teams in contests from architecture to energy balance.

Held in the National Mall’s West Potomac Park in Washington, D.C., participates and the public can view the solar modules and learn about solar energy throughout the week. Enphase is proud to be supporting these bright students in their quest to design and operate a solar-powered house for this year’s Decathlon.

The Goal: Design, build and operate solar-powered houses that are cost-effective, energy-efficient, and attractive.

The Solution: A modular, flexible penthouse design that uses lightweight, durable, renewable materials, and incorporates photovoltaic technologies and high-efficiency lighting.
