Senate Approves Bill With Additional Solar Energy Funding

The U.S. Senate has passed H.R.3183, the Energy and Water Development and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

Rhone Resch, president and CEO of the Solar Energy Industries Association, praisedthe Senate for passing the bill, stating that the vote is "anotherindication of Congress’ and the Administration’s commitments toexpanding the U.S. solar market and returning the U.S. to its rightfulplace as the global leader in solar."

"Today’s vote in theSenate is great news for the Department of Energy’s Solar EnergyProgram and the industry as a whole," Resch said. "This bill allocates$225 million for solar energy research, development and deployment -$50 million more than was allocated for fiscal year 2009. 

"Thebill also allocates $200 million for the Building Technologies Program,which includes development of solar heating and cooling technologies,"he added.
 
The House of Representatives passed H.R.3183 on Oct. 1. The bill will now go to President Obama’s desk for signature.
