Solar power has been put to use yet again! This time with a proposal to have the Manhattan Beach communities soak up the sun to generate power.

According to Manhattan Beach Community Group President Ira Zalcman, 900 solar panels fitted on the old and abandoned bathhouse building near Oriental Boulevard will help generate enough energy to meet the needs of 10 percent of the people. This plan is a stepping stone in converting Manhattan Beach to an environment friendly community. Similar projects will be carried out throughout New York City if all goes well.

A feasibility study funded by Assembly member Steve Cymbrowitz will be carried on in the next 3 to 6 months, to check the costs and usefulness of the building structure. However some local residents doubt the effectiveness of this project and have termed it as an uneconomical and costly proposal. So, will the Manhattan Beach community have its own power generating system in the near future? Let’s wait and watch!
