Today Applied Materials’ CEO Mike Splinter took part in a well-known globalthought-leader forum: The Aspen Ideas Festival. Dedicated to the notionthat bringing the major policy, business and social leaders of the world together can lead to more meaningful discussion and action, Applied isproud to be able to take part in such a prestigious event.

Specifically, we’re excited to connect with people who, just like us, want to create a cleaner, brighter future for everyone. This was themain focus of Mike’s participation in a talk on “CreatingAmerica’s Next Great Industries.”

As the world leader in creating much of the manufacturing technologythat has helped turn many of the technology innovations that make modern life into worldwide industries, the chance to provide insight into howthe creation of industries dedicated to more powerful electronics, efficient buildings and a renewable energy future is a wonderfulopportunity to show how we can work together to help create the cleaner, brighter future we all desire. Even better, focusing on these goalswill lead to a thriving manufacturing economy that will keep the UnitedStates at the forefront of technological leadership.

For those who were not in attendance at the Aspen Ideas Festival, stay tuned and we’ll post a video of Mike’s talk for you to watch. We’dlove to hear what you have to say on the subject, so please chime inwith your thoughts.

As serious as this topic is, we’re also hoping to tap into therelaxed and fun atmosphere that Aspen encourages by enlisting the helpof a LEGO artist to recreate our industry-leading SunFab thin-filmsolar PV system. While at Applied we know that SunFab has the ability to stimulate local economies, create cleantech jobs and deliver renewableenergy to communities, we’re also hoping to stimulate interest and funby handing out LEGO solar panel kits for attendees to install. We hopeeveryone will stop by and take part in our demonstration of how advanced manufacturing can lead to communities leveraging innovative technologyfor the betterment of all. From July 6th through July 9th we’llbe building a SunFab city in the Barksdale Lobby at the Aspen Meadows. With everyone’s help, we can install enough solar panels to power it!For updates on the build, follow us on Twitter. Look for #AIF2010.
